Building Inspiration Needed – Girls Bedroom Revamp

There is nothing like watching an episode of Room to Improve or Grand Designs to give you building inspiration and with it the urge to jump up & start painting, tidying, renovating or knocking your house. I know, I know, I know – glass box stuck on the side of a house….every….single….week. But I love that. Dermot is our new Miley Byrne, eh? The noughties version on at a later time with a different theme tune…..but marks the end of the weekend with a bang.

Couple this with a 4th child & my absolute addiction to instagram and Pinterest (you can follow my Instagram here and Pinterest here) & you have all the ingredients needed for a project! The mere mention of the word brings Hubster out in a cold sweat. His train of though will be somewhat like the following “Will I be implicated/required? How much will this cost me? Here we go again – more pallets, paint, nails, screws & unfinished coffee tables strewn about for me to FALL OVER” And then he will rue the day Pinterest was born under his breath, disconnect the WIFI & hope that First Dates or the like will come on & distract me.

Guilty as charged here!!!

But no. A project it is!

If I had the will & budget I would renovate my attic so each child could have their own bedroom eventually. I have seen some amazing renovation projects on Building Inspiration  which gives you tips for planning your loft conversion or renovation from start to finish. Alongside expert opinions, it also includes some amazing examples to drool over for inspiration.

For now I’ve settled on giving 1st & 2nd borns room a face lift. The delivery of bunk beds last week sent me into a flurry of paining – inspiration I drew from this photo.

Confession: This was mostly because a) I thought it looked cool & b) the bottom half of the wall was particularly pawed & dirty so it was easier than painting the whole lot!

It really wasn’t difficult but my top tip is to get Frogtape which is a fantastic masking tape.

2 coats of Dulux FrenchMist’s did the trick here.

You may notice I did not even attempt to create zig-zags at the same height – waaaaaaay beyond my capabilities and patience levels.

The Bunkbeds have been installed & house shelves hung. This is where I am so far! The house shelves are from www.notonthehighstreet.com and you can see them here. I love them and so do the girls. Perfect for housing water bottles, wooden mice, tissues and unicorns.

These ice-cream lights are from A Little Lovely Company. A massive hit – so much so that we keep finding them in 3rd borns cot. He is insisting on getting one too!

Now to seek out some book shelves that are easy for the girls to manage. And maybe a Teepee. The unicorn needs somewhere to sleep after all.

Your’s, still peeling grey specks of paint off myself,

Cli xx

Where are those bunkbeds from? You’ve done an amazing job – this looks really stylish and cool! I’d love to do a loft conversion one day but I don’t think it would add a significant value to the house for it to justify the cost 🙁

Hi Laura, they are from Flexa – I love them as they grow with the girls…..if that makes sense. You can split them and make them into singles/mid-sleepers/loft style beds as they grow. x
